No, that’s not the Grand Canyon

No, that’s not the Grand Canyon; it’s the view from near my hotel in Grand Junction.

The crowd for my SPE Distinguished Lecturer talk last night was small, but they were engaged and asked good questions. The country here is amazing, especially if you have a geo background. Flying up from Houston, you can almost watch the Colorado Plateau rise as the streams cut ever more deeply into the rock and the canyons become sharper and narrower. In one place there was a classic dendritic drainage pattern cut into the rock that looked like a giant, fossilized leaf. Just spectacular.

Heading to Denver in a few hours!
